A woman was appointed a governor in one of the villages in Pankisi Gorge.

‘This is the first occasion in the history of Pankisi Gorge when a female has been appointed the head of the village. Our traditions did not allow women to hold such positions. However, I fought and I’ve won,” said the new governor, 55-year-old Tamar Margoshvili.

Margoshvili passed an exam for holding a vacant position in the Duisi administrative body in December 2014. Previously, Margoshvili was offered a position of a specialist in the Duisi administration, but she rejected the proposal.

“A competition was announced again in the summer; I participated in it and passed the exam. I was also interviewed and finally they could not reject my candidacy,” she said.

Margoshvili had been working as a school teacher in Duisi village. She has been actively demanding the investigation of the Lapankuri special operation case. Her nephew, 22-year-old Aslan Margoshvili, was killed in the special operation.
