Health Ministry: Covid cases decrease by 24 times, hospitalisations 12 times since February in Georgia

In Georgia, the Health Ministry announced on Wednesday, March 16, that the daily confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Georgia have declined by 24 times, while the number of hospitalisation cases has decreased by 12 times compared to the data from February.

In Georgia, the Health Ministry announced on Wednesday, March 16, that the daily confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Georgia have declined by 24 times, while the number of hospitalisation cases has decreased by 12 times compared to the data from February.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Georgia has also been decreased by eight times, and the lethality rate has also been reduced by four times.

Moreover, the Georgian Health Ministry also noted that the burden on hospitals had been “significantly decreased,” adding hospitals involved in the pandemic management would continue to provide medical assistance for patients.

As per the reports published on Wednesday, March 16, the country has registered a total of 1,099 new coronavirus cases with 800 recoveries and 10 deaths in the past 24 hours. The weekly positivity rate stood at 9.41 per cent. Overall, there were currently 30,989 active cases of Coronavirus all over the country. 

​​As of today, the new Omicron variant accounts for the majority of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Georgia.

In mid-February, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced the government anticipated the general situation with the epidemic to stabilise by the end of March.

As of today, around 33.7 % of the total population of Georgia has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, which accounts for 12.5L of people. As of now, approximately 29.1L doses of vaccines have been administered in the country.
