District prosecutor’s office held an information meeting

As a part of a campaign to make the public aware on the heinous offences of femicide, the Prosecutors’ office of Akhalkalaki-Ninotsminda region held a meeting with the population of Foki village of Ninotsminda Municipality. The meeting was aimed to highlight the challenges and action taken by the prosecutor’s office agagainst the offence of Femicide.

The information meeting saw the discussion on many others, including gender bias, gender-based discrimination against women, domestic violence, child protection support and psycho-social rehabilitation of these people who are victims of any kind of Violence.

Attendees also got to know various measures implemented by the Prosecutor’s office at various levels to prevent crime, including gender-based violence.

It is worth mentioning that The meeting session was held in interactive mode. Attendees of this meeting received comprehensive information from the representative of the prosecutor’s office on issues of interest to them.

As mentioned above, the main objective of the information campaign was to raise the issue of violence, especially domestic violence against women. The issue of femicide was the main priority of the meeting for this purpose; meetings of specialised prosecutors with the population will continue in the future as per the information of the prosecutor’s office.

On the occasion of this information meeting, the prosecutor’s office also gave a presentation. This presentation was given on a digital board with the help of a projector machine.

All the programmes and strategies were described in this presentation. A significant number of women of the locality were present on the occasion. Attendees also asked their queries of the present official and got a positive response from the official on the spot.

The main query that was raised by the attendees was how to approach the higher authority in case of an emergency. In this context, officials described every detail to present women.

The violence against women has become a big problem of international level. a large number of women in Georgia also complained about the violence against them.

Recently, the Ministry of women Welfare released a report on cases of domestic violence. As per that report, domestic violence is the biggest issue in Georgia; moreover as per this report, women are still the most aggrieved section under the cases of domestic violence. That means the majority of the victims of domestic violence are women in Georgia.

The persecution office of Georgia is organising many such events in many parts of the country under the sixteen-day worldwide campaign.

This sixteen-day campaign is an international drive to raise awareness of women’s issues across the globe.
