Competition “Protect the forest for our green future” announces winners

Georgia: The Director of the Center for Environmental Information and Education of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture Tamar Aladashvili awarded the winners of the essay competition “Protect the Forest for our Green Future” on 27 February, 2024, Tuesday. The competition aims to create awareness among students about sustainable forest management, challenges in this regard, and solutions.

The winners of the competition city are as follows: 

  • Elene Samsiania, student of Newton Free School in Tbilisi
  • Badri Petruzashvili, a pupil of the second public school of Shield village of Kvarli municipality,
  • Salome Dzagania, a pupil from Bandzi public school of Martvili municipality village

The finalists and winners of the competition were given book vouchers.

Within the framework of the competition, participating students should present works on ways to reduce pressure on forests, proper use of fossil and non-fossil resources of forest, alternative fuels, and community commitments to forest protection. The essays were evaluated according to predetermined criteria by the specially created commission.

The Representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture and the German International Cooperation Society (GIZ) attended the awards event.

The Center for Environmental Information and Education organized an essay competition for pupils interested in forest protection and sustainable management issues in Georgia under the support of the forest sector reform project “ECO. It was announced within Georgia.

The “ECO Project Georgia” is co-financed by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Government of Georgia, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The project is being implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, with the involvement of agencies under the ministry.

Green Climate Fund

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is a fund established within the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change as an operating entity of the Financial Mechanism to assist developing countries in adaptation and mitigation practices to counter climate change. The GCF is based in Incheon, South Korea.
