The cabinet of Spain plans to lift a restriction next week, such as wearing mandatory face mask while going outside into public. Spain follows several other European countries that have started to roll back the Covid related restrictions.

On Wednesday, France and Italy have also lifted the compulsion of wearing outdoor facemasks.

Moreover, some regions of the country are also scrapping the requirement of the COVID-19 pandemic in which people have to show Covid Pass. A week ago, Catalonia, Spain’s second-largest province, stated that they had lifted the restriction of showing covid pass while going outside.

Many regional authorities of Spain are also lifting some restrictions of being socialising, which includes holding any events. Recently, authorities in Northern Aragon, Basque Country and the Canary Islands have also lifted the restrictions on Socialising.

The decision to lift this restriction came after seeing a rapid decline in the cases of Covid-19. Despite a surge in the number of covid related diseases, the fatalities were low this time compared to other waves and the hospital admissions and deaths are also declining consistently in Spain.

According to worldometer.info, Spain has registered a total of 10,274,653 covid cases, out of which 6,573,471 were recovered and 94,235 succumbed to it.

However, the wearing of facemasks was reinstated in Spain in December last year after the surge in the number of covid cases to curb the spread of the new Coronavirus Omicron variant.

Over the past 14 days, the infection rate has declined steadily from 3,400 cases per 100,000 people to 2,421 cases per 100,000 people. By noting this, the cabinet has released a statement to uplift the requirement of wearing mandatory outdoor masks.

As per reports, around 80% of the population in Spain are full vaccinated, which is about 38 million. Approximately 100 million doses have been given to people in Spain as of now.
