Georgia wins Rugby Europe championship by defeating Spain

In Georgia, the National Rugby Team (Lelos) defeated their Spanish counterparts 49:15 to win the Rugby Europe Championship title for the 14th time at Tbilisi’s Dinamo Arena on Sunday, March 20.

Akaki Tabutsadze, Otar Giorgadze, and Giorgi Ckoidze scored five tries in the game.

A Scrum-half player, Vasil Lobzhanidze named the best player of the game.

Moreover, the Lelos finished the tournament with twenty points after 4 wins and one tie, finishing ahead of Spain (17 points), Romania (14 points), Portugal (12 points), the Netherlands (4 points), and Russia (1 point).

The Georgian national rugby team didn’t play its scheduled game against Russia due to sanctions imposed on Russia because of its invasion of Ukraine and full suspension of the Russian team by the world governing body, with four points awarded to the team’s opponents.

The Georgian rugby team, also known as the Lelos, won the title for the 14th time.

Several people took it to Twitter in order to congratulate the Georgian National Rugby team for winning the Rugby Europe Championship title.

Georgia Rugby Union, the governing body of rugby union in Georgia, also posted several pictures and videos of the Georgian National Rugby squad.

On Georgian Rugby’s official Twitter page, several people commented on the post by expressing their happiness.

One person commented I’m very proud of you. I was in the game and enjoyed being Georgian.

According to Spanish Twitter user Juan Giono, “Congrats from Spain. You were far better. Well deserved. Enjoy it.”

Furthermore, the Georgian Rugby Union announced also announced earlier in March that Georgia’s National Rugby Team will participate in the Rugby World Cup competition for the 6th time since 2003 after the national team became the fifteenth squad to qualify for the 2023 competition that will be held in France.
