European Commission mobilises €10 billion under Global Gateway investment in South-East Asia

Europe: The European Commission has mobilised €10 billion in South-East Asian countries within the framework of Global Gateway investment. On the event of 45 years of diplomatic relations, the Commission has inaugurated the first-ever commemorative summit between the European Union and ASEAN leaders.

Charles Michel, the President of the European Council and the ASEAN Chair, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, co-chaired the EU-ASEAN commemorative summit.

With this, the European Commission seeks to establish and maintain cordial relationships with third countries in times of uncertainty.

As per the Commission, the EU and ASEAN leaders share common beliefs and goals that have made this cooperation possible. The entities have decided on multilateral order and cooperation on security as well as regional integration.

Further, the cooperation seeks to promote peace, and stability and ensure a prosperous future for the member countries. The countries aim to combat together , the transnational crime, the crime against women and children.

Cybersecurity also formed one of the major aspects of cooperation alongside the measures to counter the acts of terrorism that pose a threat to global peace and security.

The countries mutually work towards achieving resilience and sustainable development goals. The investments are projected to be made in the health sector along with education and digitalisation.

The Global Gateway partnership is a concrete expression of the importance of working more closely together with third countries. The EU and ASEAN became strategic partners in 2020.

ASEAN forms the third largest trading partner for the EU after the United States and China.
