Georgia: Ukrainian-language sections to open for students in Tbilisi

In Georgia, the Education Ministry stated on Friday that the Ukrainian-language sections would be opened educational venues based in Tbilisi for students from Ukraine who have to stay in the capital during the turmoil in their native country.

Based on the initiative taken by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, the sections will be opened at schools for Ukrainian children with the involvement of the Embassy of Ukraine and the Georgian Ministry.

Moreover, Minister Mikheil Chkhenkeli told Andrei Kasyanov, the Chargé d’affaires of Ukraine in Georgia, regarding the decision during a meeting at the Education Ministry.

In the comments following the announcement of the initiative, Kasyanov hailed the government of Georgia and Chkhenkeli for their “enormous support” of Ukrainians in Georgia.

Ukrainian children who have arrived in Georgia fleeing the ongoing war in Ukraine will be taught the Ukrainian language in Tbilisi-based schools.

As of now, a total of 58 children have already enrolled in the schools. In addition, parents of more than 50 children have already filed for school and kindergarten enrolment.

The initiative to assist Ukrainian children was taken by the Ministry of Education and Science on Friday, March 18, that primary school kids affected by the current war in Ukraine will be enrolled in public and private schools in a simplified manner throughout Georgia.
