Georgia: 6 out of 25 wine companies denied accreditation in Q1 2022

Georgia: The National Wine Agency of Georgia stated on Friday that a total of six wine production companies were denied accreditation following inspections conducted in 25 entities in the first quarter of 2022.

Georgia: The National Wine Agency of Georgia stated on Friday that a total of six wine production companies were denied accreditation following inspections conducted in 25 entities in the first quarter of 2022.

The Agency also announced the decisions had followed 83 samples taken from producers’ products. One winery’s certificate was withdrawn, and the ability to export was denied by international auditing firms Bureau Veritas and SGS, who visited 14 enterprises during the reporting period.

Additionally, during the first quarter of this year, 60 organoleptic tastings of alcohol were carried out on 2,585 samples received, out of which 2,445 were assessed positively, and the remaining 140 samples received a negative review. 

The Agency said that the inspection involves assessing the conformity of export-designated alcoholic beverages or samples submitted for certification with a batch of bottled wine

Information regarding Georgian wine:

Georgia is the country where winemaking has been practised for at least 8000 years, and it is considered the oldest winemaking nation in the world. It has five main regions for viticulture, namely Adjara, Imereti, Kakheti, Kartli, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti. However, the main region is Kakheti, where 70 % of the grapes are grown.

Last month, Georgia’s Agriculture Minister stated that the wine export growth rate had surpassed 40 per cent, adding the figure reflected the “purposeful policy” of the Georgian Government.

Earlier in February, according to the reports by the Georgian Agriculture Ministry, the country had exported about 5.3 million bottles of wine to 35 different countries in the first month of 2022.

The exports of wine have generated a revenue of $1.6 million from the sale of wine abroad produced in Georgia, and according to the data from the state authorities, it was an increase of 43%.

As per the reports, as many as 123 companies that are into vinification had exported the Wine from Georgia to several countries.
