Georgia: The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli said that the teachers of non-Georgian speaking schools will take the exam in their native language for the first time this year.

The First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Tamar Makharashvili, and the head of the National Center for Evaluation and Examinations, Sofio Gorgodze, familiarized themselves with the exam process for Armenian-speaking teachers at the examination center opened in the 39th public school and wished the teachers to pass the exam successfully.

Tamar Makharashvili thanked the teachers for actively participating in the exams to improve their qualifications and noted that the Ministry will implement many other projects to support teachers. The First Deputy Minister once again pointed out that successfully passing the exam will not only help them to get status but will automatically affect their financial situation.

About 470 teachers teach the Armenian language in exam centers this year. The applicant will be considered to have successfully passed the exam if he gets more than 60% (43 points) of the maximum score (70 points).

In order to promote the teachers of non-Georgian-speaking general educational institutions/sectors, the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia carried out the most important works. In particular, the National Center for Evaluation and Examinations prepared Armenian and Azerbaijani language tests, and the National Center for Professional Development of Teachers developed training modules for teacher exams.

Within the framework of the training modules, teachers were given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the structure and techniques of the subject exam of the Azerbaijani/Armenian language, to mobilize the subject and methodical knowledge necessary for the teaching of the Azerbaijani/Armenian language, and to familiarize themselves with the standard of minority languages provided for by the national curriculum.

We remind you that the teachers of Armenian and Azerbaijani languages did not have the opportunity to pass the exam of their native language until now, which put them in an unequal position with the teachers of Georgian-language schools. With the efforts of the Ministry, the mentioned issue has been completely settled. As a result, the dismissed non-Georgian teachers will change their status, which will directly affect their salary.
