Georgia to co-host major European event ‘Eurobasket’ next week

Tbilisi: Georgia will be hosting a major European basketball league ‘ FIBA Eurobasket 2023’ next week. The Eurobasket is Europe’s major basketball event and is scheduled to be hosted by Georgia for the first time in the history. Along with Georgia, Czech Republic, Italy, and Germany will be hosting the event, as announced by the Georgian Basketball Federation.

Tbilisi: Georgia will be hosting a major European basketball league ‘ FIBA Eurobasket 2023’ next week. The Eurobasket is Europe’s major basketball event and is scheduled to be hosted by Georgia for the first time in the history. Along with Georgia, Czech Republic, Italy, and Germany will be hosting the event, as announced by the Georgian Basketball Federation.

The competitions for division A games will are scheduled between September 1-7 in which the national teams of Spain, Georgia, Turkey, Belgium, Bulgaria and Montenegro at the recently completed Sports Palace in Tbilisi.

Tbilisi would be gaining global grounds by co-hosting a sports event of such a level. The Federation stated that European Championship is an ‘important worldwide’ event that brings hundreds of thousands together in the host cities, with millions watching the telecasts. Georgia will become the sports tourism hub in September with co-hosts like Prague, Milan, Cologne and Berlin.

Number of well-known sports journalists, bloggers, enthusiastic fans of the participating teams, and highly ranked guests along with government delegations would be visiting Tbilisi, thus providing recognition to Georgia.

Moreover, Georgia would be celebrating Georgian basketball’s 100th birth anniversary which the Federation called to be a ‘Symbolic Coincidence’.

Holding the European Championship in Georgia creates a great opportunity for the national basketball team of Georgia to achieve a significant sporting result at home, together with the fans of Georgia”, the Federation stated.

Also, a fan zone of the Eurobasket will open on Wednesday at Rike Park. This fan zone will be featuring the Official opening on August 31. Other than that, it would feature:

  • Stage activities from August 31 to September 7
  • Georgian Basketball 100-year history alley
  • 3X3 basketball games
  • Fanshop
  • Sponsor spaces and activities
  • Food spaces
  • Children’s entertainment spaces
  • Electronic sports spaces
  • Photo exhibition for the viewers
  • Giant hashtag – #EUROBASKET
  • Branded air balloon of Rike park
  • Lighting of the bridge and Tbilisi TV tower in EuroBasket, purple and blue colours
  • Big screens for fans to watch and enjoy the games
