Economy Minister praises Georgia’s tourism sector recovery , calling it ‘best in region’

Tbilisi: Levan Davitashvili, the Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development and Zurab Poloikahvili, the Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, has been all praises for the recovery the Georgian tourism sector has exhibited after the pandemic.

Tbilisi: Levan Davitashvili, the Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development and Zurab Poloikahvili, the Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, has been all praises for the recovery the Georgian tourism sector has exhibited after the pandemic.

The tourism sector of Georgia generates the highest revenue in the South Caucasus region, stated the Economy Ministry on Tuesday.

In a meeting held in Tbilisi, discussions regarding bilateral cooperation and the prospects for the further partnership were proceeded. The officials at the meeting revealed the statistics of revenue generated from tourism, which has marked a record-high figure in the current year.

This is huge in the post-pandemic era as the numbers of the current year exceed the numbers of the same period in 2019 by 20.4%, amounting to $476.1 million.

As per the statement shared by the Ministry’s Press Office, “The officials have commended the role of the Georgian Government and its policy for the development of the field of tourism, as well as the effective activities of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and the National Tourism Administration on potential target markets.”

While talking about the qualifications of the personnel employed in the tourism sector of Georgia and the possibility of support from the UNWTO in this direction, Pololikashvili has promised support in attracting foreign investments and introducing innovations.
