Tbilisi: The head of the State Security Service of Georgia, Grigol Liluashvili, stated that the law enforcement authorities have been trying their best to filter out the ‘unwanted guests’ entering the country. Owing to these efforts, there have been ‘zero’ criminal statistics of incoming tourists.

Liluashvili further stressed that, in the years 2018 and 2019, the country welcomed twice as many guests as compared to 2022. Additionally, there had been neither sabotage nor any sort of terrorism activities, implying that no tourists had entered the country who had been suspected or observed in malicious activities or about there was reasonable suspicion .

So remain calm; there’s no need to panic. If someone wants to send in agents, it is not necessary to let 900 000 visitors enter in, just 500-200-100 people are enough, as no one would allow 1,000-2,000 and 3,000 agents to come into the country”, Liluashvili said while he presented the 2021 report of the State Security Service to the Parliament.

He further explained that the unscrutinized inflow of the Russian opposition representatives would be as dangerous as of the non-opposition persons entering Georgia masked as tourists.

However, unfortunately, there is a great temptation, there are great risks that Russian agents have penetrated precisely in opposition-minded people, including broadcasts and non-governmental organizations, which have been fighting for the establishment of free democratic space on the territory of Russia, but from outside the country. I can’t tell you more specifics; everyone knows everything”, Liluashvili added.

However, the people in Tbilisi have not been discriminated against for their political ideologies or views, he further stated.
