Armenian PM calls Georgian PM Garibashvili amidst clashes with Azerbaijan

Tbilisi: The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, had a telephonic conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Tuesday initiated from Armenia’s end. The Administration of the Government of Georgia shared the information.

Tbilisi: The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, had a telephonic conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Tuesday initiated from Armenia’s end. The Administration of the Government of Georgia shared the information.

The Prime Minister of Armenia informed Garibashvili about the current scenarios that have been created as a result of another military escalation and clashes between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia, stated the press office.

Commenting further, the press office stated that Garibashvili has expressed hope that the parties would once again negotiate the matters and the crisis shall be resolved in the most peaceful manner.

Additionally, the Georgian Prime Minister has assured the readiness of the country to carry out active mediation and talks for de-escalation and restore peace and normalcy to the affected regions, stated the press office.

Last year, Georgia had mediated talks between the two countries on the release of Armenia war prisoners in exchange of handing over certain maps.

The Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict

Earlier, on Monday night, a breakout of deadly clashes between the Armenian and Azerbaijani forces was reported by the respective defence ministries. The artillery attacks from Azerbaijan had targeted the sites of Vardenis, Goris, Sotk and Jermuk in eastern Armenia.

The clashes that continued overnight had caused casualties in Azerbaijani forces, while Armenia made no mention of the losses.

The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, had called French prime minister Emmanuel Macron along with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the crisis situation at the borders.
