Tbilisi: The German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, on Wednesday, at the joint press conference with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, assured complete German assistance on the European integration of Georgia.
The European Union has been making every possible effort to support Georgia in fulfilling the necessary criteria to acquire the membership candidate status. Scholz noted, adding the country would have all kinds of support for legal and political measures to be implemented for Georgia to receive EU membership.
I would like to encourage Georgia to take all necessary steps for reforms. The recommendations of the European Commission are important in this way. I know this requires a joint, national effort of all political forces, and that’s why I want to assure you that Germany will help Georgia in this. We will be happy to help you on your way to Europe.” Scholz stated.
The chancellor highlighted Germany’s support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders as the countries have maintained cordial and multifaceted, including the aspects such as economy, ecology, energy and culture. He further emphasized that energy cooperation with Georgia was really significant for Germany.The German government has allocated money for further cooperation, as well as Georgia’s energy security.
Scholz stated that Georgia had suffered Russian aggression as the parts of Georgian territories (Abkhazia and Tskhinvali) continue to remain under Russian control till date. Germany had also welcomed Georgia supporting the United Nations resolution on March 2 that condemned Russia’s aggression towards Ukraine and Russian attempts to evade financial sanctions imposed by the international community for its aggression over Ukraine.
