Tbilisi: The “economic advancement” that the nation’s prime minister, Irakli Garibashvili, praises in his speeches, according to Roman Gotsiridze, a member of the opposition United National Movement party, is “all a lie.”
He added that it “is not Garibashvili’s merit” that gas in Georgia costs around ten times less than it does in Europe.
This is the benefit of the pipelines connecting Baku, Tbilisi, and Erzurum, which represent the nation’s riches and are administered by the government. I’m referring to the hundreds of millions of dollars that were wasted in the gas industry on hiring close associates of government and marketing their officials’ firms, Gotsiridze said.
He emphasised that the effects of economic expansion are being curtailed by high prices and inflation.”
The hike in prices is far higher than the statistics in the government reports. The inflation rate is often fabricated by the statistics office.. Even though salaries have not increased to this level in the past two years, prices have increased by 25% or more. The poorer the population becomes when prices rise faster than incomes, “said Gotsiridze.
The remarks came from the opposition as Garibashvili praised the “exceptional success” of Friday, saying- “In August, the economy grew by 10.5%, and throughout the first eight months of 2022, it grew by 10.3%”. It was also stated that the 2023 budget was established with a five per cent economic growth estimate.
