Georgia: Reconstruction of Khulo-Zarzmi section on Akhaltsikhe motorway under continuous progress

Batumi: The Ministry of regional development and infrastructure of Georgia, on Tuesday, noted that the project of reconstruction Khulo-Zarzmi section on the Akhaltsikhe motorway is progressing ahead positively. The project has been divided into three sections, and in total, rehabilitation-reconstruction will be carried out on a 47 km road.

Batumi: The Ministry of regional development and infrastructure of Georgia, on Tuesday, noted that the project of reconstruction Khulo-Zarzmi section on the Akhaltsikhe motorway is progressing ahead positively. The project has been divided into three sections, and in total, rehabilitation-reconstruction will be carried out on a 47 km road.

 With the renewed road, the travel time from Batumi to Akhaltsikhe will be reduced by 1.5 hours. The rehabilitation section of the road starts from Daba Khulo, passes through the Goderdzi pass and reaches the village Zarzma of Adigeni.

The renewed road of Khulo-Zarzma will connect Samtskhe-Javakheti and Adjara regions in the shortest way. Its rehabilitation and reconstruction will contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic condition of the population of Upper Adjara and Samtskhe-Javakheti, as well as tourism development.

The Khulo-Zarzma road project involves laying two lanes of asphalt-concrete cover on the first and second sections, covering 42 km in total, for now, more than 70% of land excavation, retaining walls and drainage structures.

 In parallel mode, four new types of crossings are actively under construction. The road foundation stabilization and asphalt-concrete cover works have begun, at this stage, the cover of up to 2 km section has already been laid, and by the end of the year, the asphalt-concrete cover is planned for a 15 km section.

Due to the difficult relief and geological conditions, the challenges created by the land processes developed in 11 districts are intensively carried out, and measures for project solutions processing.

 The first section of the works is supported by the Kuwaiti Foundation, and the third section is financed from the state budget. The total cost of works 95 689 302 GEL.
