Ivanishvili to be sanctioned, says UNM’s Dekanoidze

Tbilisi: The founder of the ruling Georgian Dream Party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, who is known to be running the country from the background, is sure to face sanctions, said an MP of the United National Movement opposition party, Khatia Dekanoidze, on Friday. The comments came in as a response to Kyiv's recent act to impose sanctions on the relatives of the ex-prime minister.

Tbilisi: The founder of the ruling Georgian Dream Party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, who is known to be running the country from the background, is sure to face sanctions, said an MP of the United National Movement opposition party, Khatia Dekanoidze, on Friday. The comments came in as a response to Kyiv’s recent act to impose sanctions on the relatives of the ex-prime minister.

Dekanoidze noted that Ivanishvili knew very well why he wasn’t included in the recent list along with his entourage and further stressed that he’d definitely be included in it if he continued to informally rule the country from the background.

“The list signed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is, of course, the result of working with partner states”, Dekanoidze said.

The ruling party MPs have been criticising the hostile move made by Kyiv’s end, stating that Ukraine has been the second country after Russia to impose sanctions on Georgian nationals with the intention of dragging Georgia into the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

Recently, Ukraine has blacklisted Ivanishvili’s brother Aleksandre Ivanishvili, his wife Ketevan Kharaidze, aunt Ucha Mamatsashvili and her son Tite Mamatsashvili.

Other than them, the sanctions will also apply to businessmen Davit Iakobashvili, Aleksandre Japaridze and Giorgi Japaridze.
