Georgian PM discusses trade and investment with UAE President

Tbilisi: The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili and the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on Monday, discussed mutual cooperation between the countries and boosting the trade relations and investments as they met in Abu Dhabi, stated the Georgian government’s press office. The Georgian delegation, chaired by the Prime Minister, reached Abu Dhabi early on Monday to conduct a high-level ‘political dialogue.

Tbilisi: The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili and the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on Monday, discussed mutual cooperation between the countries and boosting the trade relations and investments as they met in Abu Dhabi, stated the Georgian government’s press office. The Georgian delegation, chaired by the Prime Minister, reached Abu Dhabi early on Monday to conduct a high-level ‘political dialogue.

The officials from both countries expressed their willingness to further strengthen the mutual cooperation while they hailed the ‘fruitful cooperation’ between the countries in various aspects and a ‘high-level political dialogue’ in attendance of senior officials from both countries.

The countries actively negotiated the establishment of a free-trade zone between Georgia and UAE. Georgian PM Garibashvili highlighted various projects running in the country that the Arab investors have been funding.

Garibashvili also noted that the establishment of a free trade zone would build a ‘favourable environment for the promotion and development of economic and business relations between Georgia and UAE. During the meeting, aspects like making full use of the potential of ties in tourism, energy and transport were also discussed.

The officials highlighted the 84 rise in trade turnover between the countries in the past three quarters, stating the figures to reach $190 million.

The Georgian delegation includes Levan Davitashvili( vice Prime Minister and the minister of economy and sustainable development), Ilia Darchiashvili( the minister of foreign affairs) and the head of government administration, Revaz Javelidze alongside Georgian PM.
