National Food Agency tackling Asian leprosy in West Georgia

Tbilisi: The National Food Agency Coordination Management Center for the Fight against Asian Leprosy has begun the pest monitoring processes in West Georgia. In order to identify the Asian lighthouse, specialists from the National Food Agency are monitoring the occupied lands as well as the abandoned buildings.

At the same time, the Coordination Management Center, together with the representatives of the local government, have actively continued to conduct information meetings about the pests and the damage they cause to the overall yield of the crops with the population.

Based on the first stage of measures, in areas where there is a large concentration of harm, “attract and destroy” stations will be installed, which will reduce the amount of damage and help to identify the exact area of the spread.

Given the monitoring results and the pest’s biological cycle, as temperatures rise, the agency has planned the implementation of the medicinal measures to combat the spread any further.

Meanwhile, the representatives of the National Food Agency have urged the population to actively participate in measures against pests in order to protect crops, implement agrocalendar measures in nut orchards and other agricultural crops in a timely manner.

It is noteworthy that as a result of active and effective measures taken by the state in recent years, the geographical area of the pest has been under well control, with no increase in area and is only localized in western Georgia, but, for prevention purposes, monitoring systems will be placed in eastern Georgia as well.
