Georgia: SEMEC fines Georgian Water and Power 75,000 GEL for violating conditions

Tbilisi: The National Commission of Energy and Water Supply of Georgia (SEMEC) fined Georgian Water and Power with 75 thousand GEL for the benefit of the state budget. As the Commission briefed, the basis of the fine is a violation of license conditions by the organization.

On March 20, this year, the city Tbilisi Chughureti District Administration sent a letter to SEMEC, stating that on April 8, 2022, the damage to the water supply network on Osiauri Street caused the collapse of the supporting wall blocking the road, which caused damage to the road infrastructure, the square in the nearby area, electrical transmission lines and green drains.

The Chughureti Board of Directors said that despite immediate communication with Georgian Water and Power, the problem had not been resolved.

According to the water supply company, eight tenders were held in 2022 for the implementation of works on Osiauri Street, but the winner was not announced. The reason for this was to name prices higher than normal by the participants in the tender.

As per the SEMEK assessment, Georgian Water and Power did not take any such preventive measures to avoid the damage inflicted, which is a case of violations of the safety standards on Osiauri Street.

It must be noted that Georgian Water and Power has been assigned the task of ensuring that the water supply network on Osiauri Street works in full compliance with the technical and safety standards as provided by Georgian legislation.

Georgian Water and Power is the key water supplier in the Georgian Market., that works to provide clean, high-quality consumable water for the city of Tbilisi and Mtskheti, the  state institutions, and the  industrial and commercial organizations as well .

The company operates with a man force of over 3000 employees that look after the water supply and drainage services in Tbilisi and Mtskheti.
