Tbilisi: With the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia, an evening dedicated to the 60th anniversary of honored artist, famous choreographer, Gelodi Potskhishvili, was held at the Tbilisi Concert Hall. The event was attended by Georgian Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth Tea Tsulukiani.
After a grand tour in Europe and America, the Royal National Ballet of Georgia presented both old and new choreographic samples at the anniversary concert. Participating in the event: Dutch State Ballet soloists Giorgi Potskhishvili and Anna Tsigankova, as well as – the cast and soloists of the Royal National Ballet of Georgia.
Famous choreographer, founder of “Potskhishvili” choreographic dynasty Gelodi Potskhishvila, serves Georgian art for 60 years. In 1994-1999 he was the main balletmaster of the State Philharmonic of Georgia.
He is the founder of the dance ensemble “Metekhi” and children’s studio “Meteghi” at the State Philharmonic of Georgia. In 1989 the Association of Shows and Sports Spectacles was founded in Tbilisi Sports Palace.
Since 1997 he is the head of the department of the Union of Choreographers of Georgia. A number of dance numbers on the works of famous Georgian composers have been released.
Gelody Potskhishvili’s talent and merit were celebrated with a number of awards and prizes. In 1998 he was awarded the Order of Honor of Georgia for his contribution to the development of Georgian choreography.
In 2005 he was awarded with the certificate of commendation of the Supreme Council of Abkhazia, in 2011 – the Order of the Knight of the Georgian Choreographic Union, in 2015 – the Order of Excellence of the Choreographic Union.
In 2015 he was awarded the title of Honored Worker of Adjara Art. In 2016, the Golden Foundation of the Writers and Creative Union awarded the title of “Ghvatslmosili” for its special contribution to the development of Georgian choreography. In 2015, the star of Potskhishvilebi and ensemble “Metekhi” was opened in front of the Philharmonic.
In 2016, he received the Ministry of Culture award for his contribution to the development of Georgian culture – “Kurumi of Art”.
