Georgia: Representatives of ‘Little People from Georgia’ to work with Multidisciplinary Group on Achondroplasia

Tbilisi: The Deputy Minister of Labor, Health and Social Welfare of Georgia, Tamar Gabunia stated that representatives of the organization “Little People from Georgia” will have the opportunity to participate in the work of both the Coordinating Council on Rare Diseases and the Multidisciplinary Group on Achondroplasia.

According to Tamar Gabunia, Participation of Little People from Georgia in the working groups was the demand of parents of children who have been diagnosed with achondroplasia.”

She further added that the Georgian Ministry of Health is ready, also in the best interests of children, to provide necessary protocols and guidelines for the management of achondroplasia in an expedited time.

“According to the statements by the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and the Minister of Health,Zurab Azarashvili with the involvement of specialists in the field, active work is underway towards proactive planning and negotiations of various events included in the Achondroplasia Protocol.”

In addition, the agency continues to communicate with the company of the drug “Vosoritide” to provide all the necessary procedures for children, while developing the protocol and management mechanisms, stated the Deputy Health Minister Tamar Gabunia.

The offer of the Ministry of Health is valid to finance the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of diseases following achondroplasia both in Georgia and abroad.

According to Tamar Gabunia, it is necessary to return the processes to constructive mode in order to not interfere with the ongoing negotiations for the implementation of the achondroplasia management system, because any destructive actions and escalation threaten the implementation of the protocol for achondroplasia treatment.
