Georgia: Maka Botchorishvili meets members of Union Issues Committee of Germany’s Bundestag

The Chairman of the Committee for Integration with Europe, Maka Botchorishvili, who is visiting Georgia, met with members of the Union Issues Committee of Germany’s Bundestag. The main topic of discussion during the meetings was the process of Georgia’s integration into the European Union. Progress made by Georgia in terms of implementation of European Commission recommendations, ongoing reforms and existing challenges.

During the meetings, the discussion was about the security situation in the region and the challenges facing Georgia. The active dynamics of deepening political dialogue between the Georgian Parliament’s Integration Committee with Europe and the Bundestag Committee of EU Affairs were positively assessed.

“We introduced the course of implementation of 12 recommendations to our German colleagues. It is important that the mood and willingness to support that exists from Germany regarding Georgia’s European integration.

It is also important for them to hear from different political parties about how much we want Georgian political spectrum to join the EU, how seriously we take this issue and whether there is 80% support in Georgian political spectrum.

“Naturally, all political forces have the ability to state their own positions regarding joining the EU,” Maka Botchorishvili said after the meeting ended.

Members of the German delegation will hold a debate at the Bundestag EU Affairs Committee on the basis of information received during the meetings, after which they will present their views to the German government.

“I wish that in a few years our European family will grow even further and give the countries aspiring to the EU the opportunity to do so.” I am glad that the majority of Georgian population thinks European and aspires to EU. “This is a very important factor,” said delegation member Christian Petrim.

According to Teona Akubardia, a member of the Committee for Integration with Europe, German colleagues urged the opposition and the governing team to work together to implement 12 recommendations.

“Our colleagues promised us that they will do everything to support Georgia.” I think their visit to Georgia is a proof of this. Georgia, in the name of Germany, has loyal friends in the EU to fulfill the people’s order and the country to get candidate status,” said Teona Akubardia.
