Georgia: Rehabilitation in Jacob Gogebashvili House Museum to end soon
Tbilisi: On the initiative of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia, the building of Jacob Gogebashvili House-Museum was rehabilitated in the village of Variani in Gori municipality. The museum floor, balcony and wooden handrails have been renewed.
Jacob Gogebashvili’s House-Museum is located in the center of the village, at the top of a source coming from the ground, where there is a permanent nest. The result was the ground floor damaged to visitors and had to be upgraded. Rehabilitation works have completely replaced the museum floor, as well as the damaged first-floor balcony, which has not been repaired for a long time.
The tender for rehabilitation was announced by the House-Museum of Yakob Gogebashvili. The Ministry has allocated an appropriate amount to the museum for the preparation of project documentation for the rehabilitation of the museum and the renovation of the area.
House-Museum of Jacob Gogebashvili was founded in 1958. More than 1,700 exhibits are protected in his funds, including – Yakob Gogebashvili’s memorial items, photographs, documents, as well as – Soviet-era paintings, sculptures, chalk and ceramics samples; material is covered. On Gogebashvili Medal and Prize Laureates.
The building is a monument of cultural heritage, so its image was preserved during the restoration. Detailed, measured, and photographed all the architectural elements of the building’s exterior and interior. All necessary measures have been taken to improve the poor condition of the monument and its environment.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Culture pays great attention to eliminating problems in Georgian museums and improving infrastructural conditions.
The Ministry is phasing out different museums: Paolo Iashvili’s House Museum, Shalva Amiranashvili State Museum of Art, Ethnographic Museum of Giorgi Chitaia.
Notably, from the summer of 2023 the process of rehabilitation of Vazha-Pshavela House-Museum will begin, as well as work on the Akaki Shanidze House-Museum rehabilitation project is underway.
