Georgian Govt adopts safety regulations for paragliding

Tbilisi: The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili, discussed the Government’s safety regulations for paragliding in a bid to produce safe flights at a meeting with representatives of the paragliding sector.

The Government of Georgia has adopted temporary safety regulations on paragliding, operation and security in order to ensure flight safety, human life and health. The Normative Act sets out requirements related to flight safety, runway arrangement, pilot competency certification, and aircraft and equipment efficiency.

The participants were given a detailed presentation by the Head of the Civil Aviation Agency, and explained the rules such as the issuance of suitability for flying locations, certification of paragliding operators, certification of pilot competency, verification of paragliding suitability, process control and other important regulations.

Notably, commercial paragliding flights will be possible only in a conducive location and designated airspace, said the meeting. Also, non-commercial paragliding flights will be allowed at a federation agreement only in confined airspace.

As mentioned in the meeting, only those pilots will be allowed to fly having relevant flying competence/category, i.e. passed the relevant theory and practical examination, which will result in one-year or three years permits.

It is imperative that pilots are granted flight category only if they have successfully passed the Federated Examination and Recognition Commission or the Commission recognizes a pilot category document submitted by a pilot issued by a competent authority of another country or international organization.

Operators are required to follow paragliding manufacturing regulations, overseeing the production of the flights at the location where they have obtained certification.

“Georgian Paragliding Federation” will conduct the conclusion of suitability for flying locations, certification of paragliding operators, confirmation of pilot competence, verification of paragliding suitability of paragliding federation, supervision of the Federation’s activities, control over the implementation of requirements and rights by it – Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development S Civil Aviation Agency. The Ministry of Internal Affairs ensures the control of these rules.
