Georgian Minister Otar Shamugia addresses media in France

Georgia: Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia Otar Shamugia took part in a press conference held for regional and national media representatives in Clermont-Ferran during his working visit to France.

The meeting was dedicated to France’s largest animal exhibition, Sommet De L’elevage.

The press conference was attended by the Mayor of Clermont-Ferran, Olivier Bianchi, President of the Livestock Exhibition Jacques Shazale and Ambassador of Emergency and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the French Republic, Gocha Javakhishvili.

The largest livestock exhibition in France, “Some de L’Elevage”, has been held for more than 30 years. Approximately 105,000 visitors from 90 countries visit the exhibition. This year, the exhibition featured 2000 of the best breeds of bigfoot and smallfoot cattle.

As Otar Shamugia noted at the press conference, today Georgia is waiting for a historic decision; the country is waiting for the support of European friends to achieve the status of EU candidate country.

“We are doing everything, we have progress, which was reflected in the European Commission conclusion published last year. One of the top priorities for us is the integration in the EU, the EU market and the full use of the potential in this market”, – said the minister.

While speaking about the state policy of agriculture in Georgia, Otar Shamugia noted that, in the framework of promoting agrarian sector, it is important for the state to develop the direction of livestock.

“I am glad that in France, in the framework of the Livestock Exhibition, a conference is being held, where Georgia is represented as a guest of honour and that the conference is attended by not only representatives of the state agency, but also associations in the field. I thank the people and organizations involved in the conference. The joint action of the state, sector associations, business operators and farmers is very important for the development of the livestock sector. It is only with combined efforts that tangible progress can be achieved,” said Otar Shamugia.

About 20 media representatives attended the press conference. Following the press conference, a formal reception was held at Clermon-Ferran City Hall, attended by representatives from local institutions, private and public organizations, guests and journalists.
