The Georgian PM, Irakli Garibashvili, gave a speech at a briefing held by the government administration. He thanked Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission (EC) president, during his speech. He also expressed his special thanks to the European Commissioner Oliver Varhey, a great friend of the country.
The PM Said, “It is my great honour to congratulate you on today’s historic decision. The European Commission positively evaluates the achieved result and recommends the European Council to grant Georgia candidate status. This, of course, is a historic day, a historic decision of the European Commission. First, I would like to thank the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. I would also like to express special thanks to the European Commissioner Oliver Varhey, a great friend of our country.”
The head of government thanked the management team and noted that this day is the merit of each team member. According to the prime minister, the government team has worked 24 hours daily to implement 12 recommendations over the past year.
The Prime Minister congratulated each citizen today and stressed that this recognition is a worthy decision that belongs to the people.
