A decomposed body of an Italian woman was found in mummified state two years after her death in Italy. The woman has been identified as Marinella Beretta.

As per the statement by Police, they have retrieved the woman’s body at her residence in Lombardy, Lake Como, northern Italy. Officials told that Marinella Beretta’s body was discovered still sitting on a kitchen chair in a “Mummified State”.

According to the reports, the police personnel came to the spot after receiving a complaint regarding overgrown vegetation in her garden from the local people residing nearby to her house.

The Police gained permission to enter the house and found the body in what they described as a “mummified” condition.

Furthermore, they have moved her body to a mortuary where forensic experts will examine her body and find the cause of death.

As of now, no relatives or close ones has come forward to claim the mortal remains of a 70-year-old lady. However, the Police have begun the investigation to find out whether Marinella Beretta had any surviving family members or not.

Neighbours said that they had not spotted the woman in the last two years. However, they assumed that the woman had relocated at the beginning of the COVID-19, which hit northern Italy in 2020.

Police found nothing at the house to suggest foul play. Meanwhile, Mario Landriscina, Como Mayor, stated that the local government would take all the responsibilities for Beretta’s funeral. The Como Mayor has invited all the local residents to offer prayers and mourn the death of the lady.

She further stated that she would try to be there and invite the city to be present on a funeral day. This is the moment to be together, and even if the woman had no relative, we could become her relatives.

Moreover, this incident has prompted a debate in the nation about the lack of elder care. As per the reports by the National Statistics Institute, around 40% of people above the age of 75 live alone.
