The Counselor of the US Department of State, Derek Chollet, expressed his support for Ukraine and Georgia amid the invasion of the former and occupation of the latter by Russia in a conversation with Georgian foreign minister David Zalkaliani.

Chollet communicated to Georgian Finance Minister about Russia’s “premeditated, unprovoked and unjustifiable attack” against Ukraine, which was launched on Thursday, emphasising his administration stood in support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the 2 states.

Moreover, Derek Chollet also took to Twitter by adding a tweet,” Spoke with Georgian FM Zalkaliani about Russia’s premeditated, unprovoked, & unjustified attack against Ukraine & continuing occupation of Georgia. We stand united with Ukraine & Georgia in support of their sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a response to Chollet, Zalkaliani thanked everyone “for the unwavering support to our sovereignty & territorial integrity”.

In the midst of the war, Georgia’s foreign minister emphasised Georgia’s solidarity with Ukraine. At the OSCE Reinforced Permanent Council Meeting Wednesday, Zalkaliani denounced the Kremlin’s continued invasion. Furthermore, at the OSCE Reinforced Permanent Council Meeting, Zalkaliani condemned the Kremlin’s ongoing invasion.

Following the Kremlin’s decision to transfer Russian soldiers into Ukraine’s internationally recognised borders, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared a state of war across the country yesterday, while the European Union declared the Ukrainian airspace a conflict zone.

In addition, the international community has criticised the invasion and expressed support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, with the European Union, the United States, and a number of other nations putting sanctions on Russia.

Amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the civilians of Georgia came to the streets to express solidarity with Ukraine by holding peaceful protests on Thursday, February 24, in support of Ukraine.

The peaceful demonstrations were held in the Georgian capital city, Tbilisi, as well as the cities of Kutaisi, Batumi, Zugdidi, Gori, and Poti to condemn Russia’s aggression against Ukraine on Thursday.
