Burger King, a leading fast-food chain known for its meat-centric menu, is planning a major surprise in London next week. For a month, the company’s flagship restaurant in Leicester Square will be completely vegan.

According to a press release from the company, it’s the only Burger King restaurant in the world to do so and involved years of development.

Moreover, Burger King’s menu will feature classic Plant-Based Whopper and Vegan Royale, as well as more than 15 additional options. The new Plant-Based Bakon Double Cheeeze XL and Vegan Cheeeze & Bakon Royale will also be included in the menu, in what the eatery says is a “fast-food first.”

Burger King’s recently launched Katsu sandwiches, as well as vegan hamburgers, cheeseburgers, nugget burgers, cheese bites, onion rings, ice cream, and fries, will all be on offer. An all-vegan children’s menu will also be available.

As per the sources, despite the fact that some menu items are labelled as “plant-based,” Burger King affirmed that during the month-long pilot, all options at the Leicester Square Meat-Free Burger King would be vegan, adding things that do not bear the Vegan Trademark are still plant-based, but they are not certified as such.

The company also announced that if the initiative is met with enthusiasm, it may consider opening more meat-free outlets in the future – permanently.

Katie Evans of Burger King UK commented, “We are incredibly proud of our new meat-free menu; it delivers on big taste with no compromises and reflects our ongoing commitment to serving our customers a diverse and innovative range of products.”

“The limited-edition menu is a direct result of our focus on vegan and plant-based invention and goes hand in hand with our target of a 50 per cent meat-free menu by 2030, as well as our commitment to sustainability and responsible business. We cannot think of a more fitting way to re-launch our new-look flagship in Leicester Square.”

Furthermore, the eatery is donating 10p to Trees for Cities for every Plant-Based Whopper or Vegan Royale sold in the country during the pilot to further drive its sustainability efforts.
