Russian-Ukrainian war: 594 children suffered in Ukraine

Ukraine: Since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war, around 208 children have been killed in Ukraine, according to the data provided by the Prosecutor General Office of Ukraine.

“Over 594 children have suffered in the midst of ongoing in Ukraine. As of April 22, the official number of child victims in the country has not changed – 208. The number of children who got wounded has increased to 386,” according to the PGO’s press service.

Moreover, it is also noted that the number of deaths is not final yet, as work is in progress in the areas of active hostilities in the temporarily occupied and liberated territories.

In Ukraine, the largest number of victims has been recorded in the following areas-

  • Donetsk region – 120
  • Kyiv region – 113
  • Kharkiv region – 91
  • Chernihiv region – 66
  • Kherson region – 44
  • Mykolaiv region – 41
  • Luhansk region – 37
  • Zaporizhzhia region – 25
  • Sumy region – 17
  • Kyiv city – 16
  • Zhytomyr region – 15

A local newspaper reported in a newspaper that on April 20, a 16-year-old boy was severely injured in Russian shelling in the district of the Bakhmut and Donetsk region.

The PGO also reported that Russian armed forces regularly bombed and shelled civilian infrastructure and residential areas, causing damage to 1,141 educational institutions. 

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24. Artillery, multiple rocket launchers, and ballistic missiles have been used by Russian soldiers to attack and destroy major infrastructure sites, as well as to conduct heavy bombardments of residential areas of Ukrainian cities and villages.

According to the UN estimates, the number of deaths of officials in Ukraine has risen to 2,224, while 2,897 others have been injured, but the actual figure is feared to be much higher.

The UN agency also added that over 5 million Ukrainians have escaped to other countries, with more than 7 million internally displaced.
