In the meeting, both sides discussed the issues of cooperation in the field of water supply systems in Georgia and strengthening the capacity of the Land Management Agency.

“Development of irrigation infrastructure is a priority for our country. Therefore, it is crucial to help donor organizations and attract additional financial resources, which will facilitate stable access to irrigation water for farmers and increase productivity, “- said Otar Shamugia.

The Minister briefed the representatives of the World Bank on the state projects implemented in the field of agriculture and spoke about the importance of increasing the water supply areas in the country.

As Frauke Youngblutt, Head of the World Bank’s Rural and Agricultural Sector in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the South Caucasus, noted, Georgia’s agriculture has great potential for development and stressed the importance of developing sectoral policies to produce environmentally friendly agricultural products.

It was noted at the meeting that with the support of the World Bank Mission, various projects in the field of agriculture, irrigation and land management are being implemented in Georgia, which contributes to the sustainable and consistent development of agriculture in the country.

At the meeting, the sides discussed the World Bank’s new investment project in the field of agriculture – Georgia Sustainability of Agriculture, Irrigation and Land Development, which envisages large-scale rehabilitation of irrigation infrastructure and support for the institutional reform of Georgian Land Reclamation Ltd.
