UK: As the Italian media reported on Friday, the Prime Minister of Britain, Boris Johnson, is trying to create a new bloc of European countries that would bring together Ukraine, much of Eastern Europe, and Turkiye at a later stage.

The Italian daily newspaper called the idea a “European Commonwealth” and expressed it as “a new system of political, economic and military partnerships – alternative to the EU.”

According to the report suggested, the nations in the new bloc would be united by their “timidity towards Brussels” and criticism of Germany’s excessively fearful response to the Russian aggression in Ukraine.

British Premier first presented an idea to the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky when he visited the Ukrainian capital on April 9, and his administration has since then lobbied Kyiv hard over the proposal, it stated.

He also further went on to say that the UK would be the leader of the new eurosceptic and anti-Russian alliance, which would expand to Ukraine, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, as well as Turkiye “potentially, at a later phase.”

The report was written in the newspaper by one of its correspondents at the World Economic Forum in Davos, based on unnamed sources who are “aware of the talks” and are taking part in the high-level meeting in Switzerland.
