Tamar Ioseliani, Head of the Georgian Maritime Transport Agency, together with the Ambassador of Georgia to Greece, Mr David Donduas, met with the Minister of Maritime Affairs of Greece, Ioannis Plakiotakis.

It was emphasized at the meeting that cooperation between Georgia and Greece in the maritime field is one of the main and priority directions, and further deepening of this cooperation will bring more positive results to both countries.

Greek shipowners are one of the largest employers of Georgian sailors. Accordingly, the parties paid great attention to the employment of seafarers and also took an interest in innovations in the field of maritime education and training. The Georgian side focused on the innovations introduced in this field, the implemented infrastructure projects and the successful international audits by Georgia.

The Greek side stressed the high level of competence and professionalism of Georgian sailors and also the high degree of credibility of Georgian documents.

 

Thanks to the systemic reforms and projects implemented in Georgia since 2013, we have a zero rate of falsification of Georgian seafarer documentation, which leads to the trust of employers and the high reputation of Georgian sailors.

Special attention was paid to the cooperation between Georgia and Greece in the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The Greek Minister of Maritime Affairs thanked the Georgian delegation for its fruitful work in the IMO Legal Committee, chaired by Ivane Abashidze, Deputy Director of the Maritime Transport Agency.

According to Tamar Ioseliani, the meeting was fruitful and will serve to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the future.



The meeting was held within the framework of the International Maritime Exhibition – POSIDONIA2022, where Georgia is represented by the National Pavilion, organized by the Maritime Transport Agency of the Ministry of Economy.
