Georgia: Levan Davitashvili congratulates sailors on their professional day

Georgia: Sailors were congratulated on their professional day "Day of the Seafarer" (DotS), and dedicated representatives of the maritime sector were awarded by Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili, Chairman of Adjara Government Tornike Rizhvadze, Head of Maritime Transport Agency of the Ministry of Economy, Tamar Ioselian and St. Batumi Mayor Archil Chikovani.

Georgia: Sailors were congratulated on their professional day “Day of the Seafarer” (DotS), and dedicated representatives of the maritime sector were awarded by Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili, Chairman of Adjara Government Tornike Rizhvadze, Head of Maritime Transport Agency of the Ministry of Economy, Tamar Ioselian and St. Batumi Mayor Archil Chikovani.

The Minister of Economy of Georgia awarded long-distance sailing captains Zurab Chkhaidze, Nugzar Dolidze and Vazha Goguadze for their special contribution to the development of maritime transport.

The Chairman of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara presented the award to the long-distance sailing captain Akaki Esanjia and senior mechanics: Davit Tetrashvili and Nikoloz Tsirekidze.



The mayor of Batumi city – senior mechanics: Omar Lomidze and Ali Sarishvili, and the head of the Maritime Transport Agency also awarded senior mechanics: Lasha Tavadze and Stefane Vartaniani.

The Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia, the Bank of Georgia and “Toyota Center Batumi” financed the cost of the 2022-2023 academic year for nine students of the Batumi State Maritime Academy, the crewing company Queensway Navigation Co.

“Senior Mechanic Jimsher Devadze Scholarship” was awarded to Paata Gorgiladze, a student of the Faculty of Ship Mechanics of the Batumi State Maritime Academy.

On the initiative of Lali Khvedelidze, Chancellor of Batumi Navigation Training University, scholarships were awarded to 5 excellent students of the same university.

At the end of the official part of the event, a moment of silence was observed to honour the sailors who died in the line of duty, and, according to tradition, the ceremony of lowering the crown into the sea was performed against the background of the ships’ horns.

From 16:00, the event will continue in Batumi Boulevard, near the colonnades, where space for representatives of the marine industry, children’s entertainment corners, with animators and mimes, organized by the agency “Make in Georgia” – exhibition and sale of products of Georgian entrepreneurs and “Technopark Batumi” cognitive-technological pavilion.

The band of the Batumi State Naval Academy will take care of the musical accompaniment.

The event will end with the “Georgian National Ballet – Sukhishvili” concert in Batumi Boulevard.
