Georgia launches a program to promote bio-production

The Government of Georgia adopted a resolution on "Approval of the Bioproduction Promotion Program".Taking into account the fact that the demand for bio-certified products obtained as a result of bio-production is growing both in the local and export markets, the state is starting to implement the bio-production promotion program.

The Government of Georgia adopted a resolution on “Approval of the Bioproduction Promotion Program”. Taking into account the fact that the demand for bio-certified products obtained as a result of bio-production is growing both in the local and export markets, the state is starting to implement the bio-production promotion program.

According to the decision taken at the meeting of the Government of Georgia, the rural development agency will provide financial support to entrepreneurs who want to start bioproduction. The project will be implemented in all municipalities and self-governing cities.

The program for the promotion of organic production provides for the transition from non-organic farming to organic farming, which includes the reimbursement of the cost of certification of organic production, consulting services, the purchase of organic fertilizers and/or bio preparations for use against pests and diseases, the purchase of bio preparations for bee treatment and bio silk, as well as laboratory analysis services for the production of honey and wax. 

Reimbursement of costs incurred for certification of organic production, consulting services, laboratory analysis of honey and wax for a potential beneficiary was determined by no more than 70%, no more than 7,000 GEL, and in the event that the source of participation of the potential beneficiary is the funding received from the donor organization – no more than 40% with no more than 4000 GEL.

Reimbursement for one potential beneficiary for the purchase of organic fertilizers and/or bio-preparations for use against pests and diseases and/or for the purchase of bee bio-preparations and bio-pigment is determined by the agency under the following conditions, in the case of viticulture, the compensation of the agency, converted to 1 ha, is determined by not more than 70%, not more than 5100 GEL, and if the source of participation of the potential beneficiary is the funding received from the donor organization – not more than 40%, not more than 2900 GEL.
