Ministry of Culture establishes “Anna” literary prize

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia established a new literary prize, “Anna”. The literary competition dedicated to women and female writers is associated with the name Ana Kalandadze.

According to the Ministry of Culture, the competition will be announced every year in July, and its main goal will be to promote, present and encourage female authors.

In addition, according to the Ministry, one nomination will concern both female and male authors and will be given for a work dedicated to the theme of women.

“Private law legal entities (publishers/publishing houses) registered in Georgia and natural persons who are citizens of Georgia have the right to participate in the competition. Within the framework of the competition, literary works created in a foreign language by a modern female author(s) published as books in the year before the announcement of the competition are considered.

The winners of the competition will be announced in the following nominations:

  • Female prose writer – for the best prose collection;
  • Female poet – for the best poetry collection;
  • Female translator – for the best translation;
  • The author of the best work was created on the theme of women.

The amount of the premium in each nomination is 5,000 GEL (taking into account the taxes established by the legislation of Georgia); The winner of the competition will also receive a certificate. In the case of the same person winning in different nominations, the prize will be awarded for each nomination,” reads the information released by the Ministry.

According to their information, the contestant is entitled to submit the competition application in different nominations; however, it will be possible to submit only one work/collection in one nomination. In order to identify the winners of the competition and submit them to the minister for approval, the minister will establish a competition commission consisting of recognized specialists in the field of literature, with a composition of 5 members.

The Ministry also stated that within the framework of this year’s competition, applications will be accepted from July 20 to August 22, 2022, at 12:00 PM at the Ministry, at the address: Tbilisi, Emjati st. N4, in a material form or to the official e-mail of the Ministry – info@culture.gov.ge, in the form of an electronic document.
