NGO Rights Georgia organise seminar on Domestic Violence in Chiatura Municipality

Tbilisi: An NGO (Non-Governmental Organisation) organised a seminar against domestic violence in the country’s Chiatura municipality.

It should be added that on January 19, 2024, Tamar Jokhadz a lawyer at Chaturi Legal Aid Center “Rights of Georgia” held an information meeting for senior students of the public school of Zodi village in Chiaturi municipality.

The lawyer talked to students about gender equality, challenges of violence against women, ways to solve the problem, early and forced marriage, juvenile justice, hate-motivated crime, bullying in educational institutions and other important issues.

The meeting was held as interactive session.Students asked a number of questions and received exhaustive answers to questions that were legally important to them.

During the meeting, the lawyer of “Rights of Georgia” provided the participants with information about the organisation’s activities and talked about the availability of free legal consultation and legal assistance at the Ambrolauri Legal Aid Center.

An information meeting was held within the framework of the project “Support for Victims of Gender and Domestic Violence”, which is implemented by Rights of Georgia” and four NGOs with the support of the EU and ASB Georgia Program.

The incident of domestic violence has created a huge problem for the social fabric of the country. It is to be added further that the official data of the government revealed that despite the awareness, domestic violence is still the biggest problem in the country.

At the same time, women are the number one victims of domestic violence as well. Large-scale awareness campaigns are also going on throughout the country to prevent domestic violence.

Just a month ago, many governmental and non-governmental as well as civil organisations took part in the sixteen-day campaign against domestic violence

The prosecution office also took part in this campaign. The prosecution office also arrested many people for domestic violence as well. It was being demanded that more strict laws be implemented to stop such incidents in future.
