Ilia Darchiashvili addresses a session of UNHRC

Geneva: Ilia Darchiashvili the Foreign affairs minister of Georgia while attending the session of the United Nations Human Rights Council delivered a speech. He highlights the initiative taken by Georgia to protect the Human rights of citizens.

It is to be specifically mentioned that on February 26, 2024 In his speech Ilia Darchiashvili drew attention to the current situation in the world regarding the protection of human rights and with special measures of the Georgian government.

He also underlined that the importance of approving the National Human Rights Protection Strategy for 2022-2030 and the Action Plan for 2024-2026.

Particular attention was paid to the facts of human rights violations in the occupied regions and the necessity of allowing international monitoring mechanisms to be placed on the occupied territories was emphasized by the minister as well.

On this occasion the Geogrian Ilia Darchiashvili focused on the importance of the support of the international community and their role both in terms of protecting human rights and in the direction of peaceful conflict resolution.

Ilia Darchiashvili further added “We believe that the strong position of the international community is decisive for Russia to fulfill its international obligations including the 2008 ceasefire agreement concluded with the mediation of the European Union and to withdraw its military forces from the territory of Georgia to protect the international laws”.

According to the minister’s resolution “Cooperation with Georgia” at the UN Human Rights Council expressed hope that the resolution will continue to have great support.

It is also to be noted that during his speech speaking about the challenges in the region the minister once again confirmed Georgia’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in coming years as well.

Ilia Darchiashvili noted that in light of the present-day challenges in the world, the full use of the mandate of the UN Human Rights Council is critically important and Georgia as a member of the Council is ready to contribute to this work as per the international commitment as well.

The minister confirmed that Georgia as a member country is ready to take concrete steps in the direction of human rights protection both at the national level and in international formats.
