Irakli karseladze meets ADB’s permanent representative to Georgia

Tbilisi: Irakli Karseladze, Georgia’s Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure met with the Asian Development Bank’s(ADB) Permanent Representative to Georgia Leslie Bearman Lami and Deputy Director Kamel Bumad.

At this important meeting both parties reviewed important projects in Georgia in the fields of roads, water supply and irrigation systems, educational infrastructure, and urban development. Addtionally the Georgian Minister provided the ADB’s representative with detailed information on the progress of projects supported by the bank. Many important projects are at the conclusion stage.

The ADB representatives highly evaluated the progress of project implementation and discussed further deepening cooperation and the possibilities of implementing new projects in other parts of Georgia as well.

Notably the Asian Development Bank is an important Georgian Regional Development and Infrastructure Ministry partner. The bank is represented in almost every part of the Ministry’s portfolio.

With the support of the Asian Development Bank important water supply projects, road, and educational infrastructure development are underway across many major cities of the country. The Bank’s support for institutional strengthening of the regions is also very important.

Giorgi Tsereteli Chairman of the Road Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia and Zagham Naqvi, Senior Specialist of Transport of the Asian Development Bank attended the meeting.

The ADB is a major financial organisation that provides huge financial assistance for major infrastructure projects especially in rural areas. Georgia is already receiving a large amount from Georgia. Just in November of last year two agreements were signed between ADB and Georgia for receiving €45 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the development of a climate-smart Irrigation sector.

The Loan Agreements were signed by Lasha Khutsishvili, Georgia’s Minister of Finance and Lesley Bearman Lahm the ADB Country Director for Georgia. The Climate Smart Irrigation Sector Development Project covers the overall development and improvement of agriculture systems in East Georgia.

The representative of the Asian Development Bank assured Georgia of every possible assistance in future. On the other hand the Georgian Minister extended his gratitude to the ADB for the assistance.
