Saint Lucia: Dr Ernest Hilaire has expressed his best wishes to the interested participants who are willing to participate in this year’s highly anticipated National Schools Calypso Competition.

The Carnival Planning and Management Committee of Saint Lucia has announced the opening of registration for the competition for all the primary and secondary schools on the island.

Dr Hilaire said that this exciting event forms part of the many activities which are held under the Junior Carnival Calendar including the Junior Parade of the Bands and the Schools Panorama Festival.

He added that all the primary and secondary schools on the island are invited to come forward and register a representative for the Schools Calypso Competition.

In addition to this, he said that all schools are required to complete the registration form through this LINK in order to register. In this, the registrant must provide the name of the school and the details of their representative.

Dr Ernest Hilaire added that this competition is judged in two parts that is Primary Schools and Secondary Schools and the deadline for the submission of completed registeration forms in Wednesday, April 24. 2024.

While calling out all the schools to fill the forms at the earliest, Dr Hilaire mentioned that the National Schools Calypso returned to the Lucian Carnival Calendar last year after a small hiatus caused due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He added that the competition featured sixteen schools across the island of which six were from the Secondary School and ten were from the Primary School.

Hilaire also noted that Yandi J from the Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School and Darnel from Reunion Combined School are the reigning National Schools Calypso Monarchs.

The competition will take place on Friday, July 7, 2024, and individual registrations will not be considered as all calypsonians are required to represent a Primary or Secondary level educational institution.
