Sony will not shut down its PS Store for the PS3 and Vita!

Sony has announced to shut down its PS Store for the PS3 on July 2 and for hand-held video game console Vita on August 27. It means that gamers will not be able to buy digital copies of games for the PS3 and Vita. In November 2006, Sony had launched the PS3, and more than 80 million units of the console have been sold to date. Vita has sold over 10 million units.

The company said that the gamers will still be able to re-download and play previously purchased game titles. But they will not be able to make in-game purchases through games on PSP, PS Vita, PS3. They will no longer be able to redeem PSN wallet fund vouchers on PS3, PS Vita, or PSP devices once PS Store. On 19. April 2021  the company decided to reverse the decision and continue to support the PS Store on the PS3 and PS Vita. For people with older Sony consoles, this decision comes as an essential lifeline.

According to Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan, “Upon further reflection, however, it’s clear that we made the wrong decision here. So today, I’m happy to say that we will be keeping the PlayStation Store operational for PS3 and PS Vita devices.” He further explained that the decision was taken due to potential commerce support issues for older platforms and the desire to focus resources more on PS4 and PS5, which are being used by most gamers.

The company will continue to support the PS Store on the PS3 and PS Vita, but it will continue its shutdown on the PSP. If any gamers want to buy any PSP games digitally, then better do it before July 2. After that, new content cannot be bought but will still be able to download content previously purchased. It is unclear how much time the company will support the PS Store on the PS3 and PS Vita.
