Georgia: Rehabilitation of Varketili Gorge Park is completed

Georgia: Tbilisi City Hall Environmental Protection Service has completed the arrangement of a 3.5-hectare park in Varketili gorge in the Samgori district. The renovated park opened with a gala concert today.

Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of the capital, inspected the newly opened park together with Deputy Mayor Andria Basilaia.

“I want to congratulate you today. Our promise to have one of the best vacation spots in the area has been fulfilled. I am very happy and proud that we managed to implement a similar project in the Samgori district. I am proud that a space has been arranged where a suitable place for relaxation, fun, and enjoyment is intended for people of all generations. Also, there are appropriate attractions for the little ones. Of course, this is our approach and attitude, how we imagine tomorrow Tbilisi – greener, more prosperous, developed, well-organized infrastructure and public transport. This is our love and respect for this city and the people living here, “said Kakha Kaladze.

The Mayor of the capital called on the public to be careful and protect the area.

“In the future, we will do our best to make our beautiful capital one of the best recreational spaces in Europe with public transport. Of course, all this is done for us, the people living in this city, our children and grandchildren, for future generations. One thing I want to ask you – this beauty needs a warning. Take care, do no harm, and protect against vandalism. As for maintenance, the City Hall will do its best to keep the square tidy, beautiful and well-groomed. “Success, victory and progress in everything,” – said the Mayor of Tbilisi.

As part of the rehabilitation, natural resources and green plants in the area were preserved. With minimal intervention in the environment, modern recreational space was created, which was divided into passive and active recreation zones. The park is designed for all age groups and is fully adapted for people with disabilities.

In the park area, recreation areas, open amphitheatre, fountain, drinking water taps, skate park, bicycle lane, viewing platform, playgrounds for different age groups, attractions, playgrounds, dog walking and exercise space were arranged. Also, the existing pedestrian bridge was renewed, and in the form of a meadow, picnic areas appeared.

The park area is covered with greenery. 1,191 rootstocks, 13,930 shrubs and 14,193 herbaceous plants were planted. By the principle of hydroseeding, 21,061 square meters were sown, and 3,600 square meters of grass was planted.

The entire project cost around 5,863,718 GEL.
