Georgia: Sexual, physical violence cases were reported in two different public schools in Gori Municipality

Georgia: Cases of sexual and physical violence were reported in two different public schools in Gori Municipality. In one of the schools, a 9th grader, a minor girl, accuses a school teacher of sexual harassment and debauchery.

It is known that an investigation into the case of debauchery has already been launched, and the teacher, a middle-aged man, has not been arrested yet. However, the school principal confirms that he has been temporarily removed from the teaching process.

According to a local news website, the case also contains surveillance camera recordings taken from a public school.

As for the second case, a teacher in one of the public schools of Gori Municipality is accused of beating a first-grader.

The student’s family has demanded that the teacher be fired from the school; however, according to the principal, the school disciplinary board considered the matter and did not suspend the teacher’s authority.

An investigation has been launched into the incident under the article of violence and physical abuse.

According to a national study on violence against women in Georgia (2017), 26 per cent of women reported having experienced sexual violence and/or sexual harassment by a non-partner, including sexual abuse as a child.

Out of these women, 2.7 per cent of females aged 15-64 reported experiencing sexual violence by someone other than a husband/partner. Sexual intimate partner violence was reported as being 2.3 per cent.
