Moscow: The first Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky, has refuted the Western States‘ claims of Russia receiving the unmanned aerial vehicles from Iran to use against Ukraine, calling these claims to be disinformation.

Following the closed session of the UN Security Council on October 19, Polyansky stated that Western countries are moving ahead with an aim to exert pressure on Russia and Iran under fictitious contexts and diverting their attention from them being involved in the Ukrainian invasion.

Adding further, he said that UN Security Council does not have any such evidence that proves Iran handed over the unmanned vehicles to Russia. Moreover, he clarified that Russia only used domestically produced drones.

As for Ukraine’s request to the United Nations asking for an investigation from the organization’s experts regarding Russia making use of Iranian drones, Polyansky said that if the Secretary-General decided on this, Russia would have to re-evaluate its relations with them in the coming times.

“This does not serve anyone’s interests, we do not want it, but there will be no other choice,” said the Russian diplomat while he expressed his resistance to the investigation by the fact that the UN Secretariat does not have the appropriate mandate for the act.

The intelligence data of Ukraine and Western countries noted Russia has been making use of so-called Iranian weapons against Ukraine. Additionally, the use of the Shahed-136 kamikaze drones, which has been renamed Gerani-2, has been denied by both Russia as well as Iran.

Recently, the Russian army has used drones to attack Ukrainian capital, Kyiv and various other cities, majorly targeting energy facilities.
