The Georgia national handball team is the national team of Georgia. It takes part in international team handball competitions.

The Georgian handball players, in a thrilling match at the iconic ‘Tbilisi Arena,’ hosted Australians and narrowly lost with a score of 25:27. The return match, scheduled for May 12, 2024, in Vienna, will determine the team that will advance to the World Championship.

The match was graced by the presence of outstanding personalities, including Georgian Minister of Culture and Sports Thea Tsulukiani, Minister of Refugees, Labor, Health and Social Protection Mikheil Sarjveladze, Chairman of the Sports Committee of the Parliament of Georgia Irakli Medzmariashvili, and President of the National Handball Federation Vakhtang Meifariani, adding to the magnificence of the event.

The national team earned this opportunity after a beautiful performance at the European Championship, the first time Georgian handball players competed in the continent’s championship. In a historic triumph, the national team emerged victorious in the last tour match against Bosnia-Herzegovina, held in Germany, with a 22:19 score setting a new standard for Georgian handball.

Three countries—Croatia, Denmark, and Norway—will host the 2025 World Handball Championship. The Continental Championship will be held from January 14 to February 2 next year.

For information: Georgian and Austrian teams have a history of intense competition, having met five times in the past. One of these matches ended with the victory of Georgia, and four matches ended with the win of Austrians. This history adds an extra layer of excitement to the upcoming match.
