Attack on Muslims carried out in East London condemned

London: Anti-Muslim monitoring groups and Mosques criticised a violent attack carried out by thugs against Muslims a few days ago at a mosque located in East London.

A police official said that in a racially aggravated assault, at least two Muslims were wounded around 9 p.m. on Tuesday in East Ham, outside the Sri Lankan Muslim Center.

The police also added after carrying out an investigation; they found that the people who attacked Muslims were carrying bottles and hockey sticks.

The attack happened when the worshippers were going inside for iftar, the fast-breaking meal during the holy month of Ramadan. The people who suffered injuries from broken glass.

A local newspaper reported in a newspaper that bystanders told the sources that there were approximately 15 European individuals who were carrying wooden sticks, beer bottles, fluorescent tube lights, and stones.

According to a spokesperson for London’s police, the officials were investigating a racially aggravated common assault report following an incident outside a mosque in East Ham.

The spokesperson also went on to say that police were called to report that several people armed with wooden sticks and bottles attacked the members of the mosque while on their way.

“One suspect is said to have set alight some sort of papers in a bin just outside the mosque. The individual who committed the crime fled a few minutes ago before police arrived.

“Police officials looked out for the suspects but found no trace. Several people suffered minor injuries but did not require any medical treatment.”

The police spokesman added that they would put on extra patrols in the place of the incident and that no arrests have been made.

Several people criticised the attack carried out on Muslims on Twitter.

One of London’s oldest, largest and busiest mosques, The East London Mosque & London Muslim Centre, has also condemned this act of violence against Muslims on Twitter.

“We are horrified by the attack on worshipers outside Masjid Bilal in East Ham. No communities should have to live in fear of far-right threats and violence,” they tweeted.
