Georgia: Romeo Mikautadze opens ‘Make Your School Energy Efficient’ event

Tbilisi: The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, along with the support of the EU and German Credit Bank for Reconstruction (KfW) and in cooperation with GOPA Intec, under the “Georgian Energy Sector Reform Program”, hosted the opening event of the campaign “Make Your School Energy Efficient”.The event was opened by the first Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Romeo Mikautadze.

As the Georgian Deputy Economy Minister, Romeo Mikautadze stated, Georgia is currently undergoing a phase of energy reforms and the Government of Georgia will ensure that its is successfully implemented as it is important to inform and engage the public in these programs. 

“I believe that such competitions will contribute to the promotion of the European energy-saving practices in the country and to raise awareness about energy efficiency, which will sure to have a positive impact on the country’s sustainable future and energy security,” the first deputy minister said.

The Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Mzia Giorgobiani, Senior Advisor to INTEC – GOPA-International Energy Consultants Vakhtang Begashvili and CENN Executive Director Nana Janashia were also present at the informatory event.

According to the campaign, 10 participating schools throughout Tbilisi will plan to implement the activities to improve energy efficiency in the buildings until June 15, and at the end of June, a commission made up of different agencies will announce 3 winners and award them with energy efficient prizes, which will be worth 3,000 euros.

The event was attended by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia , representatives of participating schools and various Non Government Organizations.
