Georgia: Agriculture Ministry, German Institute of Metrology to cooperate for developing circular economy
Tbilisi: The Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia, Solomon Pavliashvili met with representatives of the German Institute of Metrology (PTB).At the meeting, the parties discussed issues of opportunities to cooperate in the direction of developing the circular economy in the country.
Solomon Pavliashvili spoke about the projects implemented in the field of waste management and focused on the importance of waste management code, waste management strategy and action plan documents.
“Sustainable waste management and development is one of the priorities of the government. Our goal is to promote the implementation of circular economy in the country, which in turn is an instrument for implementing the green economy model and a high standard of waste management,” said the Georgian Deputy Agriculture Minister Pavliashvili.
The talk also touched on the importance of strengthening the agriculture laboratory and encouraging waste processing plants to determine the compliance of eco-friendly technologies in the country.
It is noteworthy that the German Institute of Metrology (PTB), within the framework of international cooperation, has been implementing projects in Georgia in metrology, standardization, accreditation, compliance assessment and other directions for several decades.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of the relevant ministry.
The German National Metrology Institute (PTB) is a higher federal authority and research institute for science and technology based in Braunschweig and Berlin.
Pursuant to the German Units and Time Act, the Institute is responsible for the definition, retention, and adoption of international units of measurements and for supplying national standards. This includes providing the exact time using atomic clocks, which is then transmitted via internet and radio wave transmitters.
The German National Metrology Institute works in close co-operation with universities, other research institutes, and industry to conduct research and development activities in the area of metrology.
